The weather might be raining, and the days getting shorter, but we’ve got something here at Service Geeni to brighten your day. Our brand-new user interface design! Our fresh new look and feel gives you a seamless experience as you move around the tool, with new colours, icons and easy to navigate layout.

But, it’s not just all about aesthetics, and we don’t believe in changing things for the sake of it. We have put a whole heap of research and thought into the new design with you, the user, at the forefront of our minds. Our new design makes the Service Geeni interface more intuitive and user friendly, as well as accessible and generally a pleasant work environment.

5 Reasons To Love Our New UI:

    1. Easier on the eye
    2. Easier to read
    3. Easier to find what you need
    4. Easier to understand
    5. Easier to customise

 1. Easier on the eye

One of the first things you will notice is – we’ve changed our colours! We’ve swapped our colour palette for something which is much easier on the eye. Our new colours are designed to reduce eye strain and improve readability, for a happier experience all round.

As well as simplifying the colour palette, we’ve also cleaned up the design in general. We’ve got rid of any unnecessary text or icons to make sure when you are working in Service Geeni it is a peaceful environment and not one that feels overly busy or cluttered.

 2. Easier to read

In several places, we’ve increased the contrast between the text and the background to improve accessibility for those with visual impairments. We’ve also increased our font size in a number of areas to make things a little clearer for everyone.

Our new design makes sure you can clearly see key information when you need it, making your life much easier and helping you work with less effort (and eye strain).

3. Easier to find what you need

We’ve worked hard to redesign the navigation of the Service Geeni UI. As the backbone of the interface, we know it needs to be as logical and easy to use as possible.

Left Hand Menu

The first things we’ve done is move the menu to the left-hand side, which is not only more intuitive, but means you have to scroll less, and means we can fit more useful information into the module labels.

Sub-modules

One key improvement is the addition of sub-modules into the navigation bar. Previously you had to click into a module to see what it contained. With the new UI you just have to hover over that module for the sub-modules to appear. We’ve designed this to be much easier to use, allowing you to quickly find the sub-module you need from your current page.

The new navigation bar design gives you improved visibility of where everything lives in the system.

Expand and Collapse

You can also expand and collapse the bar as needed, so you can tuck it away if you want to see the full screen but jump back in easily when you need it next (and the system even remembers your preference!).

Home

We added ‘Home’ to the nav bar so that you can get to it quickly and easily from anywhere in the tool. We know that the homepage is one people often want to click back to as they navigate, so by adding this button at the top of the menu you can work more efficiently.

Visual Hierarchies

Throughout the new design, we’ve maintained clear visual hierarchies of how your data is structured. Whether you are looking at job lists, equipment detail, or engineer schedules. The most important information is displayed clearly and prominently, then you click to expand and read more details.

This approach makes it much easier for you to pinpoint the information you need rather than being presented with too much information all at once.

4. Easier to understand

As well as improving the way we display the text and the colours, we’ve made improvements to other elements within the software to make them easier to understand. Especially for new users. We want Service Geeni to be as intuitive as possible.

Buttons & Icons

Our buttons have been restyled to make them much easier to identify and more clickable. We’ve also made sure the text on the buttons is as clear as possible for ease of use.

We’ve also redesigned some of our icons to convey more meaning, in-line with other tools we all use on our daily life.

Tooltips

We have added more tooltips throughout the platform to guide new users through the tool, giving them helpful pointers where necessary.

Colours

Coming back to colours, as well as using colour to make the software easier on the eyes, but we have looked at how to better user colour to convey the status of items, helping pages convey meaning at a glance.

Renamed modules

We realised some of our module names were overly complicated, so we’ve fixed that to make things simpler. For example – “Miscellaneous Items Enquiry” has been changed to “Miscellaneous Items” and “Purchase Enquiry & Stock Purchasing” is now “Purchase Records”. Much simpler!

Actionable messages

We’ve made it easier to action a message. There are now three dots at the side of each message which opens a menu with available actions for you to take. We have also added an unread message indicator, and tidied the whole notifications panel up to make it clean and simple. Ultimately, helping you to keep on top of communications and actions.

5. Easier to customise

Finally, we’ve also added a new section to the navigation bar which will help give you a more personalised experience – Favourites.

The new Favourites section gives you quick access to the submodules and actions you use the most. The platform automatically puts submodules you use the most into this section, but you can also customise it yourself.

The benefit of this is that you can make sure the areas of the software you use the most are the easiest to get to – which can be very useful and help you work more efficiently.
